Walter North, head of USAID Egypt, said that Egypt should adopt a number of measures to confront corruption and establish a fair regime to pave the way for achieving democracy during a speech Tuesday. During his speech at the "Responsive Government Initiative" conference in Cairo, he expressed his hopes that the conference would be a real opportunity for the government, institutions, and partners to exchange the best policies in different fields. Ten Egyptian ministries and a number of private sector companies, in addition to NGOs, participated in the conference. The conference aims to respond to the desire of Egypt's government to honor its commitments and to draft a system to confront corruption. The conference will discuss the policies adopted by the government and transparency, in addition to supporting the government to adopt new measures to confront bribes and to reform civil services offered by ministries.
