CAIRO: Policemen protesting outside Egypt's Ministry of Interior ended their sit-in outside the ministry and left peacefully to give Minister of Interior Mansour el-Issawy an opportunity to achieve their demands. Central Security Forces (CSF) created security cordons around the ministry and prevented the passage of vehicles or any persons except ministry staff. Cleaners began to remove the banners and slogans, re-painted the fence around the ministry and cleaned the pavement of remnants of the protest. A security source who requested anonymity said the CSF intervened at dawn today and persuaded the protesters to break up the sit-in peacefully. Protestors refused to comment on the resolution of the protest. On Monday, thousands of police officers organized a protest and sit-in outside the ministry's headquarters. Their demands include purging the ministry of corrupt agents of former Minister Habib al-Adly and to end military trials of members of the police. They also asked for an incentive award of 200 percent of their basic salary and a transportation allowance or issuance of a Public Transportation Authority card. They also called for the determination of working hours and the provision of education about the law so that officers know their rights and duties.
