CAIRO: Egypt's state TV broadcaster Shahira Amin defended state TV interview with Israeli soldiers Gilad Shalit after his release in swap with 1,000 Palestinian prisoners through Egyptian mediation. Amin said the interview desired by Shalit after she asked him if he would like to be interviewed by state TV for a few minutes, according to Israeli newspapers Haartez and Jerusalem Post. The interview was conducted after taking decision from Egyptian Minister of Information Osama Heikal who coordinated with the Egyptian General Intelligence Services officials, she said to Haartez. Amin expressed her rejection to the Israeli campaign that criticizes Egyptian state TV. She felt sorry for the kidnapping of Shalit and sympathized with him as a mother would her child. Amin asked the Red Cross committee about his condition before the interview, she told Jerusalem Post newspaper. She noted the interview stopped when Amin felt that Shalit was exhausted, so she demanded some water for him and asked if he can continue the interview after he rested and he accepted.
