Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Amr today assured U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton in a phone call that the Maspiro incidents do not represent the full spectrum of Egyptian experience. The call to Clinton was a chance for the U.S. to express its condolences to the victims of the Maspiro incidents last Sunday, said Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry and Legal Advisor Amr Roshdy. Mohamed Amr assured the U.S. Secretary that the Egyptian government intends to deal with the incident appropriately and carry out all investigations to determine the details, the spokesman added. There will be a legislative committee for fact-finding, Amr also reported. The Foreign Minister also pointed out steps being taken by the Egyptian government to ensure the religious rights of all citizens, particularly the issues pertaining to houses of worship. He also mentioned a plan to criminalize discrimination.
