Security forces imposed a security cordon in Port Said today to secure the departure of Egypt's Mufti and Minister of Awqaf from the coastal city. The security measures came after a youth verbally attacked Mufti Ali Gomaa today as he delivered the Friday sermon at Rahma Mosque in Port Said. The youth criticized Gomaa's positions and demanded that Gomaa descend from the platform. Gomaa, and Minister of Awqaf (Religious Affairs) Mohamed Abdel Fadil al-Qawsi, went to Port Said today to open the Rahma Mosque. A number of people interfered to prevent the youth, Khaled A., from reaching the Mufti, while security forces managed to contain the situation and removed the youth from the mosque. The Mufti is charged with interpreting Sharia, Islamic Law, for the Egyptian government.
