CAIRO: Former Egyptian Minister of Culture, Mohammad Abdel Moneim el-Sawy, expressed cheer over hosting the Maker Faire Africa 2011 festival in Egypt after it hosted in Kenya and Nigeria in the past two years. Maker Faire Africa is an annual pan-African Maker Faire for a community of innovators. It is a fellowship of creators who believe creating is the most authentic form of manufacturing and manufacturing is what forges a vigorous middle class. During a press conference organized by the American University in Cairo (AUC) on Tuesday, el-Sawy said the Egyptian innovator has the ability to forgive since they created the Egyptian January 25 Revolution against injustice and corruption. Innovation is a culture for all people and all civilizations. Innovation is what caused human being from caveman to astronauts visiting the moon, said AUC program for development and creation director, Alaa Ibrahim. The organizer of the Maker Fair Africa in Nigeria, Amica Courier, said creations are based on ideas and the creator should learn first, plan then develop their idea. He added the conference provides creators and innovators a chance to apply their ideas into something tangible.
