Investigations into police and army torture allegations begins
Published in Youm7 on 29 - 09 - 2011

CAIRO: Four military and police officers were sent to investigations before Egypt's military prosecution today. They are accused of rape, causing chaos and beating two defendants who were accused of weapons trading in Dakahlia governorate.
A video posted on Facebook showed the military and police officers beating the two defendants to get information out of them.
Some citizens gathered outside the military court in east Cairo during the investigations. There was another protest outside the Cabinet in Dakahlia calling for mercy for the officers.
Kafr el-Kordy village witnessed various reactions toward the video clip of torturing the defendants in prison. Some refused any form of torture, some said the defendants were innocent and others accused the defendants for terrorizing people.
The defendants' families insist they are innocent.
The defendants are Hassan Hassan Mohamed, 35, and his brother El Sayed, 25, who is a student at faculty of Islamic studies in Damietta.
Their brother Khaled, 34, a farmer, denied that they worked in weapons trading. He said, “The second day after their arrest, I saw them in a car without upper clothes. There were signs of torture on their bodies, then they were put in an armed car where officers beat them in front of the citizens in the street.”
The defendants' mother, Waheba El Sayed Ibrahim, 65, said, “I was shocked to death when I watched the video, and I won't forget my sons' rights.” She called on the head of Egypt's ruling military council, Field Marshal Hussein Tanatwy, to set the brothers free and investigate the officers.
Shaimaa, 22, one of the defendants' wives, said her husband has devoted his life for farming only, and she had never seen any weapon in her house. She added that police officers also beat her children, Amr, 6, Fatma, 4, and Aliaa, 2.
One of the citizens who refused to give his name said the defendants are known in the region as thugs and are always terrorizing residents. He they are familiar in the Ministry of Interior.
He added during last July, there was a fight between the defendants and other thugs, and they were shooting at each other in streets and terrorizing people.
