Al-Azhar's grand Imam, Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb said the Islamic institution would face against Shiism spread during his meeting with a delegation the Lebanese El-Hakeem Institution and representatives of the Supreme Iraqi Council at the headquarters of Al-Azhar Thursday. “Al-Azhar is determined to maintain Muslims' unity, and Al-Azhar will take other measures if this situation remains out of control in order to defend the Sunnis.” Sunnis make up the majority of Muslims worldwide. Shiite Muslims are a small minority in Egypt. Tayeb said what is broadcasted on Shiite television stations is only benefitting Israel and the West, and aims to divide the Islamic Omma (community). Tayeb said there are many TV channels that curse and accuse Sunnis and even doubt in the Quran. The Imam denounced the intensive attempts to spread Shiism in the country, especially in Egypt.
