Former Egyptian Ambassador Nabil Fahmy said canceling the Camp David peace treaty with Israel is an option he refuses since the peace between Arab countries and Israeli should continue. Egypt is now playing an active role in leading the future of the region so it must carry out the main role and aim for the peace process, Fahmy claimed during a conference about the Egyptian-Israeli relations held on Wednesday. Fahmy expressed his support for reviewing security attaches but he refused to cancel the Camp David peace treaty. He said canceling the treaty will lead to serious international repercussions. He raised the necessity of amending the Camp David peace treaty, which includes many articles providing Israel with the right to defend itself in case of a surprise attack. He believes such articles are the main reason Egyptian soldiers were injured and killed on the borders in the past incidents. Professor of International Relations in AUC Ezz al-Din Shokry said what happens in Egypt nowadays doesn't reflect the new trends and policies of Egyptian foreign policy. He added the discussions aim to draft these trends, criticizing the double standard policies adopted by the Egyptian government towards Israel.
