EGYPT: The Democratic Alliance for Egypt, which includes 43 political parties, announced the alliance plans to boycott the upcoming parliamentary elections. The alliance opposes holding the elections under the system of allowing two thirds of parliamentary seats for proportional list of parties and the third for an individual list. The general secretary for Freedom and Justice Party, Mohamed Saad al-Katatni, issued a statement yesterday about the Democratic Alliance deciding not to participate in the parliamentary elections. They claimed to apply the Political Isolation law and canceled article no. 5 of the elections law stating individual candidates for parliamentary elections cannot join any political parties is they are elected.
