The cabinet confirmed on amending the law of competition protection and the prevention of the monopolistic actions law as well. Those amendments included sharpening penalties of monopoly crimes and releasing the first one complains for the crime to encourage revealing it. This decision was made during the cabinet meeting today headed by Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf. The amendments included increasing the penalty to reach 300 million EGP (U.S. $50.2 million) without a maximum rate, according to the monopoly crime itself.
