Ismailia military prosecution began an investigation on Sunday after confiscating eight American-made missiles and three rocket launchers smuggled into Egypt from Libya, security sources reported. The investigation will explore the reasons behind the cache of weapons near the Suez Canal, sources said, adding that it is expected that investigations will reveal that either the Canal was to targeted or the weapons were to be smuggled to the Gaza Strip through Sinai. The missiles were transferred to experts in the Egyptian Armed Forces late Saturday and investigations continued through early Sunday. The security forces confiscated the missiles in four closed boxes, but found empty boxes, indicating that rocket-propelled grenade launchers had been stolen. Security forces know the identities of some of those involved, sources said, adding that inspection of the area is ongoing.
