CAIRO: The American University in Cairo (AUC) fired 60 workers that participated in a sit-in staged by the AUC students. The Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights condemned this action, and highlighted the center's support for the fired workers. The center added that the sit-in was held to highlight poor conditions, poor education system, and increasing tuition, while workers protested low salaries. AUC students called for a tuition ceiling, taking care of AUC workers' affairs, and preventing any political interference by the university.
