Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Tahrir Square before the Mugamaa Building Monday evening for a march to the headquarters of the Egyptian Cabinet calling for an end to the use of the Emergency Law. The Mugamma is an important government building that houses various ministries and issues passports and visas. The seventeen political movements and parties that participated in the march, chanted slogans and called for a sit-in on Sep. 30 if their demands are not met. Dozens of bystanders joined the march from the direction of Talaat Harb Street. Traffic police attempted to reroute traffic disrupted by the march. The demonstrators prevented any protestors from raising banners calling for anything but the abolition of the Emergency Law. Supporters of the family of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman and Michael Nabil joined the march to demand their release. Abdel Rahman is serving a life sentence in an American prison. Nabil is a prominent Coptic blogger imprisoned in Egypt and has recently undertaken a hunger strike.
