Egyptian Minister of Electricity Hassan Younis headed to Vienna Sunday to attend the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The Egyptian delegation will raise a number of important issues during the meeting including renewing the Egyptian call to remove weapons of mass destruction from the region, implementing inclusive guarantees on nuclear facilities in the region, and pressuring Israel to join the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The Egyptian delegation will discuss the Egyptian government's decision to pursue nuclear power, including reasons why the Egyptian government has delayed international bidding on projects until after the upcoming elections. Younis will present the Egyptian program for preparing staff that will operate and maintain nuclear power stations, in coordination with the IAEA, EU, and other nuclear powers.
