Professor and director of Remote Sensing Applications Center at Boston University, Dr. Farouk el-Baz, apologized for not being able to attend the ‘Egyptian Young Scientists' in the American University in Cairo (AUC) yesterday. The hotel, in which el-Baz is staying, warned guests of going out the hotel in fear of the demonstrations of Friday of No to Emergency Law. Mennatallah Ashraf apologized for el-Baz's absence. Many Egyptian students interested in scientific research attended the conference and presented their research. Many AUC professors attended the conference, such as the head of Mechanical engineering department, Dr. Salah al-Hagar, and the head of Physics department, Dr. Ehab Abdul Rahman. The conference is considered the first conference for scientific research for schools and university students. The conference aims to discuss scientific base in Egypt. The conference discussed problems the scientific research in Egypt faces and different ways to avoid them. “I did not expect this number of research. The attendee students presented 363 scientific researches. The conference committee will choose the best 100 research in order to apply them and make them tangible,” Ashraf said. Ashraf assured AUC is the only and main sponsor for these research projects and will provide laboratories to apply the researches.
