CAIRO: Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Energy Hassan Younis met with Ethiopian Minister of Water Resources Alemayehu Tigino and his delegation in Cairo this week. The ministers discussed all means of enhancing joint cooperation between two sides. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the fourth session of the Egyptian-Ethiopian ministerial committee. The Ethiopian delegation's visit aims to support the bilateral relations in different fields, especially economic and trade cooperation, said Younis. Both countries agreed on certain projects to support cooperation, including human development projects, providing technical support to the electricity sector and renewed energy technology. The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity will fund these projects, Younis added. In addition, Egyptian electric companies established certain projects in Ethiopia as they built a plant for electricity equipment and cables. Moreover, there are negotiations on building a wind farm in Ethiopia. An Egyptian technical group will participate in the executive three-way committee between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan to study the Millennium Dam, which will be established on the Blue Nile, he added. In related news, Ethiopian Minister of Water Resources Alemayehu Tigino said his country will not export water to Israel. He said all reports claiming so are baseless. Tigino added that Ethiopia aims to develop its water resources through establishing dams to produce electricity to be exported to the other Nile Basin states. Tigino's remarks came during a press conference with his Egyptian Counterpart Hesham Qandeel to announce the outcomes of a meeting of the Ethiopian-Egyptian committee, which lasted for 2 days.
