The Public Authority of the Investments and Free Zones will hold a meeting today to discuss the consequences of the recent Egyptian Minister of Information decision to suspend the issuing of licenses for new satellite channels. It is expected that the Authority will suffer significant losses as a result of the decision. The meeting will discuss ways of avoiding serious negative fallout from the decision and designing strategies to persuade the Minister to reconsider and review other avenues other than a halt to licenses. The Authority earlier cancelled security precautions used to broadcast new satellite channels, a policy employed during the reign of ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. “This is a necessary step on the path toward developing the media and economy as well as improving Egypt's image to the world,” said Chairman of the Authority Osama Saleh. Saleh visited a number of state capitals in the West in an attempt to drum up foreign investment in Egypt.
