The Founder of the National Party of Egypt and former president of the now-dissolved National Democratic Party, Talaat al-Sadat, issued a statement expressing his support for the ruling military council, the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), after refusing to participate in Friday's protests dubbed “The Friday of Course Correction.” Sadat said he appreciated the role of the SCAF in preserving the Egyptian revolution and its achievements, describing it as the main guarantor of the constitution and Egypt's legitimacy. In a statement, the National Party of Egypt said calls for protest intend to cast doubt about the role and decisions of the SCAF. It described such calls as irresponsible, and added that those calling for protests seek to exploit the atmosphere of freedom and democracy provided by the revolution for their own self-interest. The party also criticized its dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Essam Sharaf's government. The party added that the next president should be from the military to deal with current issues such as the recent tensions on the Egyptian-Israeli border. It also demanded the implementation of a presidential parliamentary regime that allows the majority-formed government to cooperate with the president on national affairs.
