Giza Governorate has began cleaning neighborhoods across the governorate in accordance with a decree issued by Prime Minister Essam Sharaf, who instructed the governors of Cairo and Giza to clean their governorates within 72 hours. Ali Abdel Rahman, Governor of Giza, told “Youm 7” that he would not rest until the streets of the governorate are clean. For the first time, Government survey committees will poll residents over the next three weeks to determine when the best trash pickup days are. Abdel Rahman said the governorate would issue new waste management contracts by next November, which would set trash collection times based off of the poll data. The governor added that this campaign is part of preparations for the new academic year. Hafez Fekry, head of the General Cleanliness Campaign, said the governorate provided all necessary equipment for the cleaning campaign, set up operations rooms, and met with the waste management companies about increasing efficiency and waste management equipment.
