Automobile production dropped by 3 percent in August, do to the lack of auto parties, particularly Japanese companies, according to automakers in Detroit. Retail sales also declined 10 percent to 8,996 vehicles. Luxury cars sales increased 3 percent to 3,337 vehicles. According to an industry website, car sales in U.S. increased 8 percent in August as compared to last year. Large Japanese auto companies including Toyota and Honda suffered a 13 percent decline in auto sales, and are suffering from a lack of auto parts after the March 11 earthquake in Japan. Sales of new cars increased 6 percent during the first eight months of this year, reaching 12 million vehicles in U.S.
