Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf promised a Nubian delegation he met yesterday, to study a project to resettle displaced Nubians in seven villages on the shores of Lake Nasser. World-renowned architect Mamdouh Hamza presented the project. Hamza said the project seeks to bring Nubians back home as their life depends on fishing. Nubians rejected the Karkar Valley Project previously presented by the government, saying the valley was too far from the lake and only suitable for white-collar Nubians. According to Hamza, the project seeks to keep the Nubians away from the lake in order to use it for other ¬purposes. The meeting coincides with Nubian parties' preparation for a four-day sit-in outside the Aswan governorate building beginning September 4 to showcase Nubian demands.
