CAIRO, EGYPT: Mohamed Ahmed Shawky El Islamboly was arrested by the military Sunday after he arrived at Cairo International Airport on a flight from Tehran. Islamboly was a leader in The Islamic Group and brother of Khaled El Islamboly, who assassinated former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat. Islamboly was sentenced to death in absentia by a military court for fighters returning from Afghanistan. He was on the military prosecutor's watch list. Islamboly will be transferred to Torah Prison to await his sentence or a retrial. His lawyers have submitted an appeal against the sentence before the Supreme Court of Military Appeals, headed Major Genera. Adel el-Morsy. The military judiciary considers re-trials of those whom were sentenced in absentia, after they petition the Court of Appeals. The last retrial before the Supreme Military Court was of Mohamed El Zawahry, brother of Al Qaeda leader Ayman El Zawahry, who was also sentenced to death in the same case. More than a hundred were accused of being Jihadists, most of whom are now fugitives.
