CAIRO: Egyptian charities Rouh and Sanabil cooperated to organize a public Iftar, the traditional fast-breaking meal in Ramadan for devout Muslims, to raise funds for surgery equipment and supplies at the Qasr el-Eini Hospital. The Iftar was held at the Nile Sport Club today and cost 40 EGP (U.S. $6.70) per individual. The money will be allocated to buy operating tables – the price tag for each is 50 million EGP (U.S. $8.3 million). Chief Physician Abdullah Muftah and the Head of Emergency Room at Qasr el-Eini Hospital Mohammad Shehab attended the public Iftar. The organizers encouraged the attendants to donate much-needed blood as well.
