High-profile Coptic lawyer, Maurice Sadek, criticized demonstrations in front of the Israeli embassy in Cairo, accusing Islamic movements of instigating them. Protestors gathered to protest a border incident when an Israeli helicopter crossed the Egyptian border near the Red Coast city of Taba Thursday. The helicopter was pursuing militants that attacked tourists near the city of Eilat, but mistakenly fired on Egyptian positions, inflicting a number of causalities. Sadek insisted that the Egyptian people wait for the results of investigations into the killing. He also criticized a statement issued by expatriate Copts that demanded a United Nations investigation of the incident, considering such a statement as interference in the work of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. Sadek justified requests he has made in the past that Israel to interfere to protect Egypt's Copts as a defense of human rights. He added that he loves Egypt saying, "I cried for the martyrs who have been killed on the EgyptianIsraeli borders recently." Sadek added, “I agree with the Director General of the Arab League, Nabil al-Araby, who condemned the demonstrations organized by the Egyptians in front of the Israeli embassy in Cairo which violated the diplomatic norms.”
