CAIRO: Members of Cairo University's Liberation Movement yesterday organized a protest in front of the Egyptian High Court of Justice demanding the ruling military council release any civilians standing military trial and drop the sentences of those convicted. In particular the protestors demanded the release of Hassam Mahmoud, an Egyptian agricultural student at Cairo University. Protestors chanted, “The Rebels Are the Free People,” “Those Who Hit Free People Should Leave,” and “Our Stand is a Peaceful Stand Against Thugs in the Administration.” The protestors also carried signs reading, “No Military Trials for Civilians.” Islam Mahmoud, brother of Hassam Mahmoud, detained 14 days ago, emphasized the demands of the protestors. “I am astonished by the Egyptian Revolution. In spite of the success of the revolution, the military arrested rebels and put them on military trial,” said Islam, as he demanded Hussein Tantawi himself, chief of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), release his brother.
