Egypt is preparing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of celebrated writer Naguib Mahfouz. In the Cairo suburb of Sayeda Zeinab, many programs are in preparation. Mr. Mohamed Refaey is organizing a seminar titled, "Spiritual Dimensions in Naguib Mahfouz's Literature." Dr. Hamed Abu Ahmed and Dr. Mohamed Hussein Abdul Allah will participate in the seminar, which will be held at Sayeda Zeinab's cultural center tonight. Foad Kandeel is organizing a short-story writing workshop. Hood Marsoud Theater will present performances by Minya Band for Arab Music and the traditional Tanoura band. There are also two programs for children, which will be presented in the small theate. First, a puppet show and a children's choir, and second, screenings of the cartoons ‘Old Dolls' and “Puppet in the Copper City.' Poet Ezzat Ibrahim will hold a poetic night in the cultural park. Many poets are participating, including Abdel Monem Ramadan, Atef Abdel Aziz, Hatem Maraey, Aml Amer, Nour Suleiman, and Khaled Ameen. Cultural Foundation departments are participating in the celebration with various activities: - The fine arts department is holding a wood and stone sculpture display, which will last for ten days; - The cultural association department is presenting a children's painting gallery; - The library department is holding a book fair; - The women, youth and workers departments are holding exhibitions for their products; - The talent department is holding scientific, literature and fine arts workshops; - The village culture department is presenting an exhibition of traditional crafts; and - the specialized palaces, fine arts business and children's departments are also participating with various activities.
