CAIRO: Amendments to the Law of Treachery proposed by the Council of Ministries make the law more acceptable, but the amendments do not abolish all of the law's defects, according to the Cairo Center for Human Rights Studies. The center said the amendments are only trying to alter an unfair law with some of the laws used by Egypt's ousted former regime to persecute their opponents. The center warned that the law could be abused if it is not fully amended and could be used against politicians who suffered under the former regime. An authority would be able to use it against those who they claim have corrupted political life in Egypt. This would allow the law to be used unfairly to exclude certain people from political life.
