CAIRO: Members of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood (MB) and the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) today staged a protest outside the Syrian Embassy in Cairo calling for the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad and the dissolution of the Ba'ath Party. Demonstrators are protesting the brutal crackdown on the liberation movement across Syria, particularly in the revolt town of Hama. The Islamist protestors also called for the severance of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Syria. Demonstrators voiced chants like, “Oh Bashar, Settle Your Matters, You Will Be Tried Like Mubarak,” “There Is No Go But Allah … Bashar is Allah's Enemy” and The People Want Bashar to Step Down.” Members of both the MB and the FJP raised Syrian, Egyptian and MB flags while roundly condemning the massacres of peaceful protestors in Syria. The time for diplomacy has passed and tougher measures must be taken against the Syrian regime, said FJP member Mahmoud Amer while criticizing Secretary-General of the Arab League Nabil al-Arabi. Egyptian military police forces beefed up security near the Embassy.
