ARISH, Egypt: Youm7 obtained one of the distributed publications handed out in some mosques in Arish, Sinai, after the Taraweeh prayers. The publications call for turning Sinai to an Islamic state. The publication, entitled "A statement from al-Qaeda in the Sinai Peninsula," included verses from the Quran proclaiming Islam as a religion of truth and so should be pursued. The statement criticized the Camp David treaty, which stipulated disarmament in Sinai. It also refused the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip by the Israeli occupation. The statement questioned the role of Egypt's Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to suspend drug smuggling to Sinai. It also discussed the discrimination against Sinai's Bedouins and the theft of Sinai's wealth.
