CAIRO: In a possible show of unity, demonstrators who have been protesting in Cairo's Roxy Square - often directly against the demonstrators in Tahrir Square - joined forces with those protesting in Tahrir today. Dozens of those who have been protesting at Roxy headed to Tahrir to join the demonstration under the slogan, ‘Friday of One Homeland.' They said they did so also to ensure their demands are heard, including that political forces do not impose their will on the Egyptian people rather than listening to them through a public referendum. They also called for the trials of figures of Egypt's former regime and the policemen accused of killing protesters during the January 25 Revolution. This is one of the main demands of protesters in Tahrir as well. The Roxy demonstrators are also referred to at the March 19 Movement after the referendum on constitutional amendments held on March 19, 2011. They believe the question of whether to hold elections or rewrite the constitution first was answered when Egyptians voted ‘yes' on a series of amendments to the 1971 Constitution, including requiring a new constitution to be written after election are held. The Roxy demonstrators have also been demonstrating in support of Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces and Prime Minister Essam Sharaf. They criticize the Tahrir demonstrators for ignoring the wishes of the ‘silent majority' who voted in favor of the referendum.
