CAIRO: The Egyptian Ministry of Health is prepared for today's demonstrations, as an emergency plan has been in place since Wednesday, reported Adel al-Adawy, the assistant minister of health. The ministry deployed 33 ambulances, six clinics and rapid deployment teams including medical units that are prepared to transfer any emergency victims out of Tahrir Square, al-Adawy said. He added that a state of emergency has been declared in all hospitals near the square. The Ministry of Health established a crisis management unit designed to manage disasters like earthquakes, epidemic diseases and fires but is also capable of responding to injuries resulting from demonstrations, al-Adawy said. New officials in the ministry trained individuals, provided medical equipment and created a communication network between hospital's emergency and operation rooms and ambulances. The ministry's emergency plan is designed to raise the standard of services offered by emergency departments at Egyptian hospitals.
