NORTH SINAI, Egypt: A technical team from Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Ltd (GASCO) failed to fix the Egyptian gas pipeline to Israel that exploded earlier this month. Residents of el-Mazraa and el-Taweel – areas of south Arish – prevented the team from fixing the pipeline, allegedly until demands are met. The residents asked for financial compensation due to damage incurred on olive farms and houses after the explosion. They rejected the government's first attempt to assuage their anger: compensation of 1000 EGP (U.S. $ 167.84). Operations under new security are expected to resume tomorrow to fix the pipeline.
