CAIRO: The Egyptian Mawlawi band will open a lantern festival on Saturday as the Gezira Park. The festival has been arranged by Egypt's Ministry of Tourism for the second year in a row. The festival aims to flourish tourism in Cairo and Islamic archaeological sites during Ramadan, the holy month of Islam in which Muslims fast all day. Mawlawi's philosophy is summarized as the cleaning of the soul from the body by spinning around a center of a circle. It is believed that the dancer spins until he clears his soul from his sins. The band will present Turkish Mawlawi but with an Egyptian touch. The Egyptian Mawlawi differs from the Turkish one because it emerges from monotheism. Arabic here.
