An Egyptian accused of assaulting the public prosecutor in Egypt's Nile Delta town of Tanta criticized the prosecution process in Egypt. In his first reaction to the Cairo Appeals Court's decision to imprison him for 18 months, Ehab Saai al-Din turned to the U.S. Embassy in Cairo to form an international investigation committee to re-investigate his case. Al-Din said he was surprised at the ruling, which was issued without reinvestigating the case before the appeals court. He said what happened in his case is important evidence that there is a defect Egypt's prosecution. In related news, sources in Egypt's Bar Association said Hamdy Khalifa, the association's former head, submitted a request to Egypt's public prosecutor to suspend the rules to protect future lawyers and keep cordial relations between judges and lawyers.
