Clashes in the now-iconic Tahrir Square erupted between protesters and street vendors after an altercation between the civilian-led Tahrir security and a street vendor took place earlier this evening. The argument escalated into rock-throwing clashes between protesters and vendors, and a window in the square was smashed. A television channel attempting to shoot the incident from the roof of one of the square's buildings was prevented from broadcasting by the protestors – many while chanting, "The Revolutionaries Are Not Thugs.” The security committee in the square, concerned with the potential for future clashes, held a meeting to discuss whether or not to evict the street vendors. Earlier today an argument took place between protestors and a group of people who attempted to enter the square by force. It was later determined that the latter group was comprised of police officers, determined to end the sit-in.
