CAIRO: The Grand Mufti of Egypt's Al-Azhar, Ahmed al-Tayyeb, condemned the deadly Oslo explosions in a statement today. He called Oslo a symbol of world social peace, and said terrorism has no religion or home. Terrorism is “a criminal act issued from deviant ideas, thoughts, and ideologies,” al-Tayyeb said. “He who commits acts of terror does not represent anything except himself, his party, or his group. These acts should not be a means to condemn the civilization he came from, the religion he believes in or citizenship he belongs to," al-Tayeb added. In its statement, Al-Azhar warned of leftist extremism in Europe and United States. Extremism is not limited to Islamists, but extends to the political, cultural and economic lives in the countries it exists in. Extremism will also affect the future of relations among civilizations, the statement added. Al-Azhar offered its condolences to the Norwegian people and asked God to bless them and bring them through this ordeal and to prevail to bring security among all people and nations in the East and West.
