CAIRO: Egyptian Minister of Electricity Hassan Younis attended the signing of a contract to provide North Giza's power station with gas turbines. After signing the contract, Younis said the project is part of a 2012-2017 five-year plan. He said the electricity sector is working to meet the increasing demands of the Egyptian citizens. The minister added that executing the first stage will take about 26 months. He said the station is composed of four gas units and four boilers to store energy and generate steam to operate steam turbines. Younis said the simple cycle of the project is scheduled to begin in May 2013, while the combined cycle will begin in April 2014. He said that the project will cost 8 billion EGP (U.S. $1.4 billion). He said the European Investment Bank, the International Bank and OPEC fund the project. The minister said the project will be executed through multiple operation systems. He added that the system will provide different companies with fair opportunities to enter tenders to execute such projects.
