ALEXANDRIA,Egypt: A campaign against the liberal al-Wafd Party was carried out because the party has allied itself with religious groups, according to party head Al-Sayyed al-Badawi. Al-Wafd organized a huge conference in Egypt's Mediterranean city of Alexandriathat was attended by members of the Cairo Supreme Federation, Alexandria's Youth Revolution Coalitionand various representatives of national political groups. Al-Sayed al-Badawi, the head of al-Wafd, said that this phase needs unified visions and ideologies. He claimed the coming phase in Egypt will be the hardest five years in Egypt's history. The document of allianceswhich was agreed by 28 parties, can achieve the demands of the January 25 Revolution demands, added al-Badawi. He also expressed his disappointment with the People's Council's statement that allowed forfigures of the former regime and dissolved members of the National Democratic Party, to be part of the council. All political parties must work against this law, he added. Al-Badawi said the demands of the January 25 Revolution have not yet been achieved. The average citizen does not feel any change regarding education, health care and social justice. National unity has still not been achieved, he claimed. Egypt's current prime minister, EssamSharaf, was elected from Tahrir Square, however, this does not mean that all ministers must be chosen from there, said al-Badawi. He also asked Egyptians to give the new government a chance. The government has turn has a list of demands to work on and achieve them according to announced time table, said al-Badawi. Al-Badawi also criticized political opportunism. "Whoever arranges to capture most of the People's Council in the coming elections will definitely lose in the elections, he said. He added that al-Wafd party is working to unify Egyptians instead of having them separated. The statement by the People's Council said it depends on financial freedom, social justice, and establishing aminimum wage. The statement also said the government must increase its role in family care, health insurance, education, and in putting an end to the cultural and professional decline. Al-Badawi addressed the US by saying that Egypt practiced democracy a long time ago, and that it does not need to learn from the US. Al-Badawi said that al-Wafd refuses any interference from Iran in Egypt. He also said that Egypt will activate its role in Africa, which was absent during the former regime.
