CAIRO: The Division of Food within the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Holding Company for Food Industries agreed to produce 5,000 tons of sugar in the market and price it at no more than 5 EGP (U.S. $0.8) per kilo. The initiative came in a bid to thwart higher prices for stable products, jumping to 7 EGP (U.S. $1.1) per kilo. The companies distributing sugar will also continue discussions with traders to increase quantities during the upcoming period to meet domestic needs of the market in the second half of August. Vice Chairman of the Division of Food, Jalal al-Omran, told Youm7 public pressure on traders for stable goods will begin in the month of August to provide the quantities required during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
