Sudan has suggested building two new dams on the Nile to generate electricity. The suggestion to build Bardana and Al-Romyla dams came during the Egyptian-Sudanese Nile authority meeting. Sudan said the two dams will be small and fit the Sudanese share of Nile water. Egypt said it must be provided with a detailed study and final designs so they can be studied. Egypt and Sudan also discusses the Jonglei Canal project. The project was begun by a French company based in Egypt and Sudan, but it was stopped during the Sudanese civil war. The French company imposed a $175 million penalty to be split equally between Egypt and Sudan. Thus far, $75m has been paid. Egypt and Sudan are discussing ways to pay the penalty. Participants at the meeting also discussed the Egyptian-Sudanese request for Ethiopia to provide water budgets for the Takizy Dam.
