The World Trade Organization (WTO) discussed how to support donor countries in an effort to achieve economic and social stability in developing countries. The discussions came during the meeting of the Common Consultative Group, which includes the WTO, World Trade Center, and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. Egyptian ambassador to the United Nations, Hisham Badr, headed the meeting. The historic and political changes that the Arab region has witnessed recently will have long-term effects on the economic and social lives of the Arab people, said Badr in his opening speech. He added that the Arab people will manage to achieve real democracy, freedom, social justice, and will successfully implement the principles of human rights. The Arab world faces many challenges, particularly in economics, said Badr. He added that it is necessary to activate economic activities through the support of foreign investment and by confronting unemployment. Badr called on donor countries to support developing nations through decreasing the obstacles to the exportation of commodities to developing nations, if those donor countries are honest in their calls for achieving reform in the region.
