CAIRO: There were violent clashes tonight in Tahrir Square between demonstrators and street vendors. The demonstrators rejected the presence of street vendors among them. Both sides threw stones at each other and many were wounded. Some demonstrators set the vendors' goods on fire after the vendors left and move to nearby Abdelmoneim Riyadh Square. As clashes continued, there was no presence of security forces in the square. Earlier today, the demonstrators surrounded the area of their sit-in with ropes to keep the street vendors from coming among them. Some car windshields were smashed during the clashes, and traffic could not move through the square. The demonstrators detained some of the vendors until they can be delivered to the military police.
