The price of potatoes has settled at 3 EGP (U.S. $0.50) per kilo for customers in public areas of Cairo, the Egyptian capital. Prices are lower in other governorates, particularly Alexandria, which witnessed the lowest price of potatoes at 1.5 EGP (U.S. $0.25) per kilo. Tomatoes are 2.5 EGP per kilo in public areas. They reached 3 EGP in Assiut. Damietta recorded the lowest price at 1 EGP per kilo (U.S. $0.17). Damietta also recorded the lowest prices for cucumbers, at 1 EGP per kilo. The price of cucumbers reached their peak in Dakahlia at 3.5 EGP per kilo for consumers. Cucumbers are sold for 2.5 EGP in Cairo. Onions dropped to 0.50 EGP in Cairo, while in Assiut onions rose as high as 2.5 EGP per kilo, the highest price in Egypt. The Ministry of Finance's official website listed the prices of local commodities on Wednesday. It collected the prices from 17 Egyptian goveronorates to represent the different standards of living in each governorate.
