Fact-finding report demands Essawy's resignation
Published in Youm7 on 30 - 06 - 2011

The New World Foundation for Development and Human Rights, Reporters Without Borders, the Observatory of Reform and Citizenship and the Network of Human Rights Defenders sent a fact-finding mission to Tahrir Square following the clashes that took place yesterday between the Central Security Forces and a number of citizens. The report stressed that the Ministry of Interior used excessive force in dealing with the protesters.
The report held Interior Minister Mansour el-Essawy and the police directly responsible for the events, and called for their resignation.
The report also called on the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to take decisive action to address the breach of stability. It also demanded the SCAF address the continuing damage being caused by remnants of the defunct National Party, and to take all legal means to speed up the trials of former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly, former officers, and other symbols of the previous regime who were involved in the murder of protestors.
The report created a chronology of events, starting with the ceremony for the families of the Martyrs at the Balloon theatre.
According to the report, thugs attacked the theatre, and in the
confusion the police attacked some of the families of the martyrs with excessive force.
The report emphasized the neglect of Prime Minister Essam Sharaf and government agencies to honor the families of martyrs and the injured.
It also criticized the excessively slow speed in trying former regime figures like Habib el Adly, which is causing tensions between them and the citizens.
The report also described in detail how security forces used tear gas and rubber bullets downtown, especially near Ibrahim Naguib street, which leads to the Ministry of Interior.
It also said thugs threw Molotov cocktails and other burning objects at the demonstrators.
1114 demonstrators were injured in the clashes, and 28 were burned severely or had broken bones.
