Egypt's caretaker government must develop the industrial sector, said Malaysian Prime Minister Mathathair Mohamed, criticizing the former regime's full dependence on the tourism industry. Mohamed refused to comment on the performance of Prime Minister Essam Sharaf's government during a press conference on Wednesday. He said the transitional government should afford many pressures. He said such governments cannot make long-term decisions, as their main mission is to achieve stability. He said democracy does not need to be achieved through stability, as democracy is practiced with the possibility of gain and loss. Regarding prosecuting members of Egypt's former ruling regime, Mohamed said, “Achieving justice needs enough time but it should not be long. Slow justice equals injustice.” He added, “Since I came to Egypt, I received many questions about the Malaysian experience and the possibility of its implementation in Egypt. So, I say Egypt should look at other experiences, not only the Malaysian case, to choose which is most suitable.” In response to a question by Youm7 about the repercussions of his meetings with Egyptian officials on Wednesday, Mohamed said during his meeting with Sharaf and representatives of Egypt's ruling military council he told them about the suspension of a Malaysian ship carrying pipes to the Gaza Strip. He said Sharaf ordered the shipment to pass through the port of al-Arish after Israel suspended the shipment. He added, “I don't know how Egypt prevented the movement of drugs to the Gaza Strip during [Hosni] Mubarak's term.” Regarding Egypt's January 25 Revolution, Mohamed said Egypt has no chance of failure. He said Egypt has become the model which all Arab countries which to imitate. The Malaysian Prime Minister said the free market economy is the invention of developed countries. He added that despite its negative effects, Malaysia has its own style to deal with such a system. He said Malaysia has laws that prevent corruption. He gave an example about how licenses are issued quickly in Malaysia to prevent bribes. He also said Malaysia has an authority to receive complaints, also a move to limit corruption.
