Yehia al-Gamal submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Essam Sharaf. Al-Gamal said in a press statement that Sharaf approved his resignation under intense pressure by him. Al-Gamal also sent his resignation letter to the Military Council, but it was rejected. According to al-Gamal, Field Marshall Mohamed Hussein Tantawi confirmed his resignation's rejection. In his statement, al-Gamal said, “During my meeting with the field marshal he told me the situation demands every one to sacrifice. So, I thankfully accept and appreciate the Military Council and Essam Sharaf's trust, and I want to apologize to him for the pressure I put upon him."
