Prime Minister Essam Sharaf has accepted the resignation of deputy-prime minister Yehia El Gamal, one of the most reviled members of the current government. This is the second resignation submitted by El Gamal. He had submitted his resignation two weeks ago, but the Supreme Military Council vetoed the resignation and asked him to stay on. Sharaf had, in a statement to the nation on Monday, promised to make a major cabinet reshuffle by the end of the week, to bring the cabinet more in line with the revolution's demands. This made it practically a certainty that El Gamal was on his way out, since his name was on top of the list of cabinet ministers whose sacking was demanded by the revolution's various coalitions and movements.
