CAIRO: The Development of Egyptian Women Organization held a conference in a hotel titled, "Women part of the Fight for Freedom and Arab development." The conference called for the postponement of parliamentary elections until a new constitution is drafted. The conference, which was attended by representatives of civil societies from Cairo, Sinai, Fayoum, Marsa Matruh and the New Valley, discussed the integration of women in political parties, stressing the importance of the representation of women in all legislation created during this period. The conference also discussed the need to re-formulate the curriculum and concepts of equality between men and women. It discussed sending a memorandum to the Minister of Education to restructure the curriculum. The conference called for the opening of a direct dialogue between women and the state, and urged emphasis on women's rights. The Family Development Foundation has prepared a campaign to collect signatures to postpone elections in the coming period. Signatures will be presented to the military governor for approval. Dr. Suheir el- Masry, President of the Egyptian Foundation for Family Development, said the organization decided to conduct a nationwide campaign to collect signatures that demand for women's political rights and their participation in politics after the January 25 Revolution. She said the most important demands of the campaign include postponing parliamentary elections, drafting a new constitution, having various electoral lists that include all communities, and emphasizing women's rights in Egypt.
