CAIRO: The Egyptian government's aim in the coming period is the protection of the nation's unity by connection with all its sectors, said Prime Minister Essam Sharaf. He added that the Coptic Diaspora and Egyptians who live abroad are invited to participate with their ideologies and views in supporting the transition to democracy. Their participation should be based on principles of justice, equality, and love among Egypt's citizens. Sharaf also called for tackling accumulated problems that resulted from former regimes. The Prime Minister's statements came on Tuesday during a meeting with a delegation including 10 representatives of the U.S. Coptic Diaspora. Sharaf said forming a "National Justice" Committee from Muslim and Coptic Christian experts means solidifying bases of national unity and confronting the sectarian crisis. He said his government would work on activating the Committee's role, prepare a law to criminalize discrimination, issue decisions regarding opening churches, and continue social discussion to activate the role of worship. Sharaf said he is looking forward to receiving the delegation's proposals in order to be included in the current discussion course. The delegation asked the government to put the Copts' demands into consideration, to practice freedom of worship, and for equality in getting high posts.
